That clause punctuation

1i00Hi -02i02br

01i00 Could somebody please help me with this problem with punctuation in the middle of a "that" clause and the rule for it. 02i02br
02br
00 01i00 I punctuate in verbatim text. I cannot change the word to another one to fit a grammar rule. I need a rule to follow or give someone concerning the word "that" as in the examples below. And I'm not sure if "that" is a relative pronoun there or not. But I punctuate like this, not knowing the rule I suppose.02i02br

00 02br

00"I know that if we are late, they will leave us." 02br
02br
00"The reason was that if she came back, there would be no game." 02br
02br
00"Someone told me that if there were five more, we'd be full."02br
02br
02br
02br
00 01i00 And now I have someone telling me it should be correctly punctuated as below: 02i02br
02br
02br
02br
00 "I know that, if we are late, they will leave us."02br
02br
00 "The reason was that, if she came back, there would be no game."02br
02br
00 "Someone told me that, if there were five more, we'd be full."02br
02br

00 01i00Thanks for your help!02i0-
