That bit

Hi.

So anything you can do to improve your spoken English-- even beyond the pretty high level you have already reached-- will help make your stay with us that bit more fun for you.

What does the underlined part mean? I actually can't work out the meaning of 'that'? How would the meaning change if it were 'a bit' ?

This is a special use of "that" in expressions such as "that bit more fun", "that little extra", "that tiny amount more" and similar. The meaning is about the same as "a bit more", with, um, a bit more emphasis. For me, this use of "that" also imparts a slightly chatty feel.

I'm glad you posted this, because I was stumped. I thought it was a mistake for "that much more fun". Considering that it sounds odd to my ear, I wonder if it's chiefly British.
