What is "that" in the sentence? Is it a conjunction, determiner, demonstrative or an error here?

Sorry I didn't say more, but I was hoping that someone with more knowledge of the language of poker would step in. As nobody has, I'll say that I think the sentence should read:

Pete upped the ante in the/that poker game to $100 per hand.

Use either 'the' or 'that', not both.
