Thanks, XXX or Thanks XXX

Are both form of voicing our gratitude toward those who have helped us considered "legit"?

My second question is I'm not sure if the the use of the word "legit" sounds good in the sentence itself...

Hi, The former (thanks , somebody ) is the correct form. Thanks, John - not: Thanks John (without a comma). I would use legitimate instead of legit , as the latter seems to deal with the law or legality more.

The former (thanks, somebody) is the correct form. Thanks, John - not: Thanks John (without a comma).

I would use legitimate instead of legit, as the latter seems to deal with the law or legality more.
