"thanks to the use of smth" VS "thanks to using smth"

Hi,

Example: We could accomplist this task thanks to the use of modern technologies. (1)

I guess this sentence is perfect English?

What if I modify it as follows:

We could accomplist this task thanks to using modern technologies.(2)

Is (2) grammatical?

I notice that "thanks to the use of" is used MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY in the Internet... If you could comment on this alternative ( noun VS -ing) ?

I would not say "... thanks to the use of modern technology or technologies". I wouldn't say it's necessarily incorrect; it just seems an odd wording to me.

If you could clarify the following point?

"... thanks to using ..." is wrong in any context I can think of.
"... thanks to the use of ..." is appropriate in some contexts, but in "... thanks to the use of modern technology", the use of seems redundant.
