"thanks are due" sentence structure

Am I right to think this awkward: Thanks are due for the excellent leadership of Tom Smith, Nancy Jones, Becky Stewart, Anne Malone, Chris Mobrey, Hans Anderson, Liza Keyes, and Mark Allen.

Normally I would say "Thanks are due to so-and-so for their excellent leadership." Would that sound awkward with the long list of names? Thanks!

I prefer the 2nd version too, and it is not awkward with the list of names. If you like, you can rearrange it: Thanks are due for their excellent leadership to Tom Smith, Nancy Jones, et al.

Like Mr. M, I prefer your second choice (even over his optional suggestion).
