Thanks

Hello All!

When I say 'thanks' or 'thank you', it always puzzle me because I am not aware of its function or form. Whether it is a noun or exclamation is not clear to me. The dictionary I refer suggests it as both.

Could you please illustrate with some example of its usage as a noun or a exclamation?

Thanks.
