Task 2: Some people think the main purpose of education is to make individuals useful to society while others say education helps them to achieve personal ambitions. Discuss both views and give your opinion
People have different views about the implications of education and what it serves. Although, I recognize the benefits of education in helping people to achieve their passions and dreams, I believe that it is more significant in shaping young people into future useful citizens for the society.
To begin with, education assists youngsters in pursuing their ambitions by laying the foundation for them to figure out their own passions through their achievement in studying. On the way to acquire new knowledge, people will be curious about everything such as how the world operates and how people interact with society and find the interest and excitement along the way, and therefore are able to realize their dreams and who they want to be. For example, my friend, who was always excited about studying chemistry and got excellent academic results for the subject, has recently achieved her ambition to become as a pharmacist thanks to education, which has inspired and fulfilled her dreams.
However, it seem to me that the primary aim of education is to prepare the young become better citizens for the world. Firstly, education helps people to sharpen their skills and broaden their knowledge, and therefore ready for deal with the future world. It is an indisputable fact that well-educated and knowledgeable people gains an edge over others in the job market, and thus are able to land a job and thrive in their career path. Secondly, there is no place better than schools in shaping individuals’ identities and helping them to obtain a standard code of conduct. In this way, schools teach a young people how to be responsible, grateful and respectful, which constitute useful citizens of the new world.
In conclusion, while education make people’s way on achieving their personal ambitions smoother with less obstacles, I would argue the primary objective of education is to equip people with useful and practical skills to benefit the society as a whole.
