Thank you note for a birthday gift

Hi. My friend sent me a gift card for my birthday and I really loved it so this is what I want to say “ Hearing from you on my birthday was enough. You really shouldn’t have! But it was very thoughtful of you to send me this gift. I really cannot thank you enough. I absolutely love it” can you please correct me if I have something wrong and is it ok to say the first two sentences? Thanks

It sounds like you're saying they shouldn't have gotten in touch, but you mean they shouldn't have given you a gift. I would rearrange: It was very thoughtful of you to send me this gift. You really shouldn’t have!

  • It sounds like you're saying they shouldn't have gotten in touch, but you mean they shouldn't have given you a gift.
  • I would rearrange: It was very thoughtful of you to send me this gift.
  • You really shouldn’t have!
  • Hearing from you on my birthday was enough.
  • I really cannot thank you enough.
