Now, it is not easy to find a company like this: nice workplace, hardworking colleagues, talented manager. I got many valuable experiences when working in this place. Sometimes, "that" or "this place" can have a slightly negative connotation. It's not easy to explain when it does. But the letter might be interpreted that way by some. I would change it slightly to include the name of the company. For example, let's say the company name was "Acme". Also, is "John" a first name or last name"? It sounds like a first name. Let's say his name is John Smith. "Mr." is normally only used with a last name, and is more respectful than using the first name. You could say "Dear John", or "Dear Mr. Smith". The first is more friendly, the second is more formal, so choose the tone you want.

I would tweak the letter like this:

Dear Mr. Smith,

I would like to thank you for introducing me to that company during my job searches.
Now, it is not easy to find a company like this: nice workplace, hardworking colleagues, talented manager. I got many valuable experiences when working in this place. I'm happy to report that I'm in line for manager promotion in about 6 months.
Again, thank you very much. I greatly appreciate your generosity.
