Thank you for the lovely evening/dinner

Hello,
Can I say: "Thank you for the lovely evening."? "Thank you for the lovely dinner."?
Or does it have to be "a lovely evening", "a lovely dinner"?

My English tutor says both are correct, "the" is just more definite.

Please confirm!

Thank you! Emotion: smile
