Thank... for and thank to...

I know that we say: "Thnks to Goerge for helping me." Which means, thanks to someone for doing something .
While checking some sentences I found the following:
1. We didn't miss the plan. Thanks to David's fast driving .
Isn't it right that we should say : "Thanks for David's fast driving"?

1. If you were thanking David, you would say:

'Thanks for driving me to the airport, Dave!'

2. If you were telling someone else how Dave drove you to the airport, you would say:

'I caught the plane, thanks to Dave's fast driving.'

3. If you were making a speech to thank Dave, you would say:

'Thanks to Dave for driving me to the airport!'
