Than that/In comparison

I have been passing a test and came across the following sentence

The salary of a bus driver is much higher_______________ .
a) than that of a teacher
b) in comparison with the salary of a teacher

The test says that A is correct

My question is whether B is completely wrong or it can be acceptable? As I thought both were correct.
