Than--preposition or conjunction

Same products sold in X were more expensive than that being sold in Y.

1) The above was the original. Do you think it is OK, or requiring a re-write like below?

The products sold in X were more expensive than the same products/ones sold in Y.



2) And can 'than' be used as a preposition instead?

The products sold in X were more expensive than the same ones in Y.

So are you saying that I need to be explicit and not use a pronoun like'those'? Do I need to say 'than the same products being sold...'?

I mean that the sentence seems back to front because the first mention of the products is "The same products". Normally the word "same" refers back to something said previously. In your other example
