than or rather than

whats grammatical?
It's better that he find out now 0rather0 than later.

It's better that he find out from me 0rather0 than her.

They are both correct. " In English we can use ellipsis - leave words out and the meaning is still there. I don't know the rule for the second one but it sounds better to my ear.

They are both correct.
The second one, however, you could write: "It's better that he find out from me rather than from her." In English we can use ellipsis - leave words out and the meaning is still there. I don't know the rule for the second one but it sounds better to my ear.
