Than for

Hi.

However, the purchases of Active X remained significantly higher than for the other product over this time frame.


Would you please explain about the usage of for in the above sentence? It strikes me as odd. It should be replaced by those of I suppose.

Yes, that's possible. I think the writer forgot what he was doing by the time he got to the second part of the sentence.
