To help to illustrate my question, i made up this sentence: Communications among people are much more convenient than it was a hundred years ago.

I wonder if the following ways are also correct:

1. Communications among people are much more convenient than was a hundred years ago.(it omitted)

2. Communications among people are much more convenient than a hundred years ago.(it was omitted)

In my opinion, in No. 1 when "it" has been omitted, it seems redundant to keep "was", but grammatically sentence No. 1 is all right.

obviously NO. 2 looks more natural and the way more commonly used.

Am I right in so presuming? look forward to hearing your kind clarifications.

Hello, Anon, I think you're right. Yet, something bothers me: "communication s " is in the plural, so, grammatically speaking, it should be (in my opinion) "than they were ". Of course, your n° 2 fits all!

I think sentence 2 would be incorrect,I would re-write it as follows:

Communications among people are much more convenient now than were a hundred years back.
