Test Question

Tom, --- working harder this term, still needs to put more work into geometry.

A- however
B- although
C- even though
D- even
E- while

I'm confused. I think B is correct but I wonder why other options are incorrect in this context? What do you think?

Hi CalifJim. Here is the source of the question:

Although and though with -ing clauses

In formal situations, we can use although and thoughto introduce an -ing clause:
[a teacher talking about a student]

Peter, although working harder this term, still needs to put more work into mathematics.

OK. That sounds more like an answer than a question, so you have an answer. Only "however","even", and "even though" are impossible.
