Task 1:
The pie charts illustrate the figure for water consumption in variety of ways among six regions in the world.
Overall, water is used most in cultivating in most parts of the world, namely South America, Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia. In addition, Central Asia is region which consumed water for agriculture most.
As can be seen from the pie charts, the percentage of water for agriculture use in Central Asia is 88%. This figure was higher than those of Africa, South East Asia and South America by 4%, 7% and 17% respectively. The rate of water consumption in Africa for Industrial use is highest among six parts (53%), which was approximately 5 times than those of South East Asia (12%) and South America (10%) in accordingly. The proportion of water used at home in South America which accounted for 19%, was higher than those of Europe with 15%, North America with 13%, Africa with 9% and both Central Asia and South East Asia with 7%.
Task 2: Governments should spend more money on railways rather than roads. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
It is said that authorities should invest money in railways rather than roads. I haftly agree with this idea.
On the one hand, using railways have several benefits for both residents and the government. First and foremost, more and more people use railways in order that they can save tons of money instead of using other luxurious transportation such as plane. In addition, by spending more money on railways, the government would not have to be worried about the environmental problems, especially air pollution because using railways can eliminate the emission from private vehicles use. Consequently, governments can concentrate to tackle other crucial problems.
On the other hand, it is essential that money should be put into roads for some causes. The first reason is that the quality of roads reflect the quality of the infrastructures in that region. For instance, tourists seem to avoid the region which have bad roads due to the fact that they think the local authority do not care about the citizens’ life here. Besides, unrepaired roads could prevent citizens from daily transportation. For example, walking to work places or running for morning exercises are impossible if the quality of the roads are poor.
In conclusion, I believe that it needs a balance between whether using money on railways or on roads for suitable purposes.
