Terms needed for a necktie

Hi

(I don't even have the right words to ask this question...)

I'd like to know what we call the two hanging pieces of a necktie -- I mean, how can I say/write this to a young boy?

The front _________________ should be longer than the back ____________________.

Hi Tom,

I found this website http://www.tieanecktie.com/HandKnot.php , which I remember having visited once before. I wear clip-on ties nowadays.
