Term of usage

I originally wanted to be a rock star, but, in the end, I decided to become an investment banker.

This usage in bold is termed (non essential online). But isn't there another term for information that goes before a sentence after the conjunction?

They give more emphasis (make it more interesting) to the following sentence after the conjunction but they have a term don't they.

Like. contrary to popular belief (sentence), or not withstanding (sentence).
