Tenses in a long sentence

Hello everyone,

I've been struggling with the following sentence for a while, mainly because I'm not sure if all the tenses are aligned correctly. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Please kindly also let me know if you are able to grasp the meaning of the sentence even though it's long. Thanks, and here it goes:

"Many people look back at their lives and wish that someone would have explained what lies ahead while they were still in the beginning of their journey, so that those important, life-impacting decisions could be made with all the wisdom they deserved." ( or deserve?)

Thanks again.
