Tenses

If you please, help me find the mistakes in these senteces.

We were going out for a meal every evening when we were on holiday.

This milk isn't smelling fresh enough. I think I'll throw it out.

I think the second one should be 'doesn't smell instead of isn't smlling.'

The first one, I'm not sure about using the past simple or the past cotinuous.
