Could someone please help me with the tenses in the following sentences.
1) I told them to put away the things they were using after they were done. 2) I told them to put away the things they are using after they are done.
I understand 1 to be correct in the following two scenarios: a) If they were using those things at some point in the past and are probably not using them any longer. b) If they are still using those things and I told them to put them away at some point in the past.
And I understand 2 to be correct only if: They are still using those things.
Am I right?
