Tenses!!

If you become aware that YOU ARE BEING CHECKED, it stresses you out. OR If you .... that you are checked, it la la la. What do you think?

the situation: two people (male and woman or two males) look in each other's eyes, it may be because of a situation #2 or becase they just happened to look at each other and none of them turns away so they both notice it and keep staring and it becomes a challenge - who is stronger. I hope it's understandable
