Tenses

a. I could not prevent my imagination from churning out a picture of them, the town, and the place I would soon call home.

b. I could not prevent my imagination from churning out a picture of them, the town, and the place I will soon call home.

In terms of tenses, are both of the above grammatical?

Does b suggest I at the time this was written didn't call this place home?
