I used to have a belief in Santa Claus but I just grew up since then.

Is "I grew up since then" totally wrong? Do native speakers always use present perfect with since? Why did the speaker say "grew up"?

In my opinion, yes.

I can't answer a question that contains "always", but I would say that "most of the time" sounds reasonable.
