Tenses

"You see, I grew up in a fairly small town called Devizes and I spent/have spent all of my life there."

Is this sentence in contradiction? While the sentences before it mention that the person has moved to a new place and he is telling his friend about his hometown. Are both "spent" and "have spent" Ok?
