Tenses

Hi,
which sentence is correct?

This is the first time I am in Paris.
This is the first time I've been to Paris.

I'm inclined to say the second sentence is correct, although I'm not sure why. Please guide me.
Thank you in advance!

Hi Second looks more common and correct. Though I see no problems about the first sentence, but still it is more common to use 'have been' when talking about places you've been to. Moreover, 'have been' indicates a movement action while first sentence doesn't indicate any movements from place to another.

If you don't want to use the perfect form, you can say: "This is my first time in Paris."

That's right. It's simply a standard pattern with "first time" (or "second" or "third" or ...).

This is the [first / second / ...] time I've [been to Paris / seen this movie / passed that exam / ...].
This is the [first / second / ...] time [he's / she's / we've
