Tense with "should have known better than to"?

I'm trying to write this sentence in the past tense. Could you please help? Is option 1 correct or 2?

1. Sammy's friend should have known better than to have asked him to come over to this boring party.

2. Sammy's friend should have known better than to ask him to come over to this boring party.
