Tense that should be used when used 'former' and 'ex' '

Hi everyone can u tell me whether these sentences are wrong or not?
1)The person who you invited is erica's ex boyfriend
2) He is my former boss.
What I want to ask is that when a person use 'former' & 'ex' is it necessary to be that sentence in present tense or not.
