Tense-sentence correction

Hello, could you please clarify my doubts regarding the use of present continuous in the sentences below? Are these sentences correct, or maybe I should use Present Simple? Thank you

Thanks to parents who are teaching their children how to compete, the offspring builds self-confidence and he or she is not afraid of new challenges. Many children are suffering from a lack of confidence.

The children who are being exposed to competition have the advantage over their contemporaries who are protected by parents who think that competition may be something dangerous.

Thank you. I have a follow-up question. If the continuous form is OK, isn't it incompatible with the simple form in the second clause? I think it should be more grammatical and logical to use either Present Continuous or Present Simple in both clauses. What's your opinion?

The verb in the contiuous is describing an on-going action. The verb in the present tense describes the outcome. Remember, when we're talking about language, there is much that doesn't seem logical.
