Tense question

Hi,
A: "Most companies I've ever worked for were generous."
B: "Most companies I ever worked for were generous."

I think A is only correct if I am still working. B (simple past) is correct both if I am still employed and if I am retired. Or do I have to cross out the word "ever" if I want to use the simple past?

Also, what if I add "except for your company" at the end? Do I need to use the past perfect?
"Most companies I had ever worked for were generous except for your company."

Thank you!!
