Tense question

I know the normal way is to use matching tenses. But would it be possible to mix in some cases, such as use would with can. Foe example:

It would be great if we can do this.

I think it works. Please advice?

It is not necessary that tense should be the same. Examples: She says she was happy in Britain. She says she will be happy in Britain.

  • But, in the your sentence I think could is OK as we refer to a hypothetical situation.

I am not sure if I understand your question, but as for the conditional sentence, you should use the following form to impart your intended concept.

It would be great if we could do this.
