tense problem in 2 sentences please help

How would you say theses sentences properly please?

- When I first started working and I got home, I would be able to fall asleep the second I got home.
- Let me know 10 minutes before we get there that we are arriving.

" -- "would" indicates habitual behaviour; "was able" suggests that it was a beneficial thing. Often it would be sufficient just to say "Let me know ten minutes before we get there". Your fuller version is OK too though (provided the journey is sufficiently long for it to be considered that you "are arriving" a full ten minutes before you literally do arrive).
