Tense problem and don't know if to include brackets?

Could you please help me correct these sentences? I'm having trouble with the tenses and grammar.

1 How many do I have to win before/in order to move up.
2 The train after that one was coming in 20 minutes/would come/be coming in 20 minutes so I could afford to miss it.
3 My bag's getting heavier/keeps getting heavier as my hand is tiring.
4 I love it when all the guest have checked in to the hotel by the time I leave/have left.
5 There are so many pieces of paper in this pile as (there are) in that one.
6 He was in worse (of a) shape than I thought.
7 You are better off working for a strict establishment and than moving on to a more lenient one where they don't ask as much of you than the other way around.
8 It happens more (often) than you think.
9 The report gets one page longer every month./gets longer by a page every month.
10 It all depends on who it's important to/for. If its important to the boss, he go through with it.
