Tense in very short personal story telling

Hi. Let us pretend that the following is in the beginning part of a few-paged story about someone, tracing back to his early days.

1.
I was ten then. My brother 1 ) had gotten/secured a job at a school as a teacher. My sister 2) had been a nurse working in a hospital in Seoul for two years now. My other sister 3) worked as a substitute teacher at a local high school. My older brother 4) had worked in the state for a while after he got out the service, but had to stop when he decided to move abroad.

My question: Could no. 3 have been in a past perfect tense?

2.
My sister loved this old small watch given by my grandmother, but it was apparent that it had meant as much to her as it had to my brother.

My question: Could this be a past perfect?
