Tense for instruction

Hi. Are these correct as the instruction (part of the instructions?) to an assignment? Could I call the following one-sentence, what-to-do part an instruction? I always seem to see the word "instructions" used in relation to sentences that tell what to do in an assignment and the words "an instruction" for cases that call for warning like "Please don't go into the water while staying here - It's deep." I might be wrong on this but wish any teacher in your forums would help me.

Hi. Thank you.

Please tell me if the word "the" before the word "others" in the number 1 set is optional or a must. I did searches on Google Book Search and came up with 54 hits for the phrase "with the others in class" and 474 hits for the phrase "with others in class."

Use 'the' if the student is to share with all his classmates; omit 'the' if he is to share with only some of his classmates.
