Tense correct?

Hi. Please help. Is this correct? Are both correct or just one is correct?

My pet peeve is not getting good grades when I studied/have studied hard.

You can use the present or present perfect.

My pet peeve is not getting good grades when I have studied hard.
My pet peeve is not getting good grades when I study hard.

Do you understand why the Present Perfect is required here?

Because you have a present-tense statement (My pet peeve is ...) you need a tense that has a present point of view: present, future of the present (will), or present perfect -- not a tense that has a past point of view: past, future of the past (would), or past perfect.
