Tense consistency

If I was watching a part of a film and then talked about it with my friend who would scold me for not remembering the name of the main character, could I say something like this?
They didn't say his name in that part of the film. Besides, it'd been a long time since I last saw it. (or maybe since I'd last seen it.)
I'd normaly say It's been a long time since I last saw it, but I'm talking about the time before watching the film. I've just watched it again, so I can't say: It has been a long time since I last saw it. Is it then correct to use the past perfect?
And just one more thing. If you find someone who gives you private math lessons. What are those lessons called? What would you use if you wanted to tell someone that you're going to a tutorial session? Tutorial session sounds a bit too formal to my ear.

Thank you so much in advance!

Ann225I'd normally say It's been a long time since I last saw it,
That's also good for the situation you describe. "last saw it" can mean the time before the current watching session, so you will be understood if you say "It's been ...".

So I can't use the sentence: It had been a long time since I had last seen it. ?
Would there be a situation where I could say it? And is ''It had been a long time since I last saw it'' wrong?:) I'd say it is, but I'm not a 100% sure.
Thank you.

Ann225So I can't use the sentence: It had been a long time since I had last seen it. ?
Not in the situation you described. And I don't advise it in any situation. It's too awkward with two past perfect tenses even though it is OK grammatically.
Ann225And is It had been a long time since I last saw it wrong?
Yes. Fro
