Tense Consistency

Ex: She didn't want a name that was too oridnary, and we both were fans of XXX's work. Therefore, XXX is a great name for their baby.

This question is about verb tense consistency.

Should "IS" be also in past tense even if the baby is still alive and they still think the name for the baby is a great name due to the reaons mentioned?

What gets me is that if we put WAS instead of IS, it sounds like it is no longer considered as a good name for the baby.

Thanks in advance.

She didn't want a name that was too ordinary , and we both were fans of ***'s work. Therefore, *** was a great name for their baby. If the name was chosen in the past and the narrative is discussing the past, then 'was' is the natural choice.

  • She didn't want a name that was too ordinary , and we both were fans of ***'s work.
  • Therefore, *** was a great name for their baby.
  • If the name was chosen in the past and the narrative is discussing the past, then 'was' is the natural choice.
