Tense concordance?

Hi. Are these correct? I think no. 1 is correct. How about numbers. 2 and 5? Thank you in advance.

1. Do you think we can live our lives by constantly avoiding problems and not confront them?
2. Do you think we can live our lives constantly avoiding problems and not confront them?
3. Do you think we can live our lives by constantly avoiding problems and not confronting them?
4. Do you think we can live our lives constantly avoiding problems and not confront them?
5. Do you think we can live our lives by constantly avoiding problems and do not confront them?

No doubt there are varying opinions about this but in my opinion only #3 is correct. Avoiding is a gerund caused by the preposition by . As and is a co-ordinating conjunction, the verb form following it should be a gerund as well (confronting).

Thank you, Are these correct? I think the following sentences are not exactly identical but could be considered pretty much alike as sentence 1 I wrote in the original post.

Do you think we can live independently and not ask our parents for help?

Do you think we can live independently and not ask our parents for help from now on?
