If I say "during my undergraduate course [which has finished]", can I use the present perfect or I must use the simple past?
For instance:
During my undergraduate course, I have learned several lessons.
Do I have to say "I learned several lessons"?
I'm confused because if the course has finished, I'm refering to a past situation. I'm not still learning the lessons. On the other hand, I've learned them and I still have this knowledge inside me.
Top answer
You can use past perfect, which can be read as the course being in the past. During my undergrad course, I had learned several lessons.
