tense agreement

Children don't remember that they were walking in their sleep, and they don't usually
wake up if the parent leads them back to bed.

It doesn't work there. It would be better as: are usually asleep or are usually sleeping.

You should also follow fivejedjon's suggestion and write 'a parent'. Writing 'the parent' would only make sense if you had already
