Can anyone explain to me why the following underlined text is written in the progressive tense?
"After every meal, I am in the practice of brushing my teeth. I use a toothpaste recommended by my dentist, and I make sure to floss to remove any food between my teeth. I am also using a special kit for tooth whitening, something that is becoming more popular now"
Thank you very much!

What I mean is that even though there's "now" at the end of the sentence, the verb "use" doesn't refer to 'now' and it something that happens after every meal. Thanks for yur answer. N.

The present continuous suggests that the use of the kit is a new practice that may be only temporary. (I suppose that once the teeth are white enough, you don't have to use the kit anymore.
