Tense

1. The water level in lake Victoria increased over the last week.

Is the sentence right? I would prefer - 2. The water level in lake Victoria has increased over the last week.

Both are correct. #2 focuses more on the current situation. I'd say T he water level has risen .

You have to capitalize "Lake" too.
I also prefer this one, but note Clive's suggestion for a better verb.
