Grammar

Tense

Hi,

I'd like to know if the following is correct grammatically. I found this in Yahoo Answers.

ex1) I have recently separated with my husband and fell in love with my best friend's boyfriend. I did not see this coming.

Is is correct to use the present perfect in the event that appears to have happened prior to the event of her falling in love with her best friend's boyfriend?

Shouldn't it be corrected as follows?

ex2) I recently separated with my husband and fell in love with my best friend's boyfriend.

I'd apprecate it if you could help me on this. Thanks.

No, it's not correct. I'm often astonished at how terrible the grammar is of native speakers who post to Yahoo. I would also say that she separated FROM her husband, not WITH her husband.
