I agree with you, the book IS difficult, especially the vocabulary

I haven't read it to your chapter yet (by the way it's 10th chapter, not 1st),
but I think that this sentence means the following: all that stopped him from
flinging the marriage in Baby's face was Nicole who came up to their table.

I hope I'll read till the end some day, because it's considered to be classics. But it's not gripping for me, unfortunately

. And it's not among the books I would recommend someone to read in English.
What about you? Do you find the plot gripping?

Well, not really, the only reason I bought this novel was because it read on the back cover that the story was about the relationship between a psychiatrist and his patient, and I'm so much interested in psychiatry and enjoy reading books that deals with brain issues although I know most people would buy this book because it's widely known as a tragic love story.

To be honest, so far, i found it a bore to read. Doctor Diver is not showing me '' the reader '' how much he's really good at analyzing his patient condition, disappointedly.

I just hope thing's will get better as the story goes along.

The Author language is SUPERIOR, some how reminds me of Charles Dickens's.

Yes, it does indeed. And Dickens is extremely difficult.
Have you tried "The Woman in White" by Wilkie Collins or "Norwegian Wood" by Haruki Murakami? These are the two I've read recently. They are about relations, different, but both mysterious and absorbing.

You should try giving it a chance - take the chapters as short stories - take the pages as short poems.
