Tendency

Hi,

"She displayed criminal tendencies even when she was very young."

Can one also say:

"She displayed a criminal tendencyeven when she was very young." ?

If yes, are there any reasons why one of the above is better than the other?

Thank you.

They are both correct English, but "criminal tendencies" is the more usual and familiar expression.

Both are fine to me.

The first looks at it through specifics, the second through general character (unless it goes on to indicate that a particular tendency is meant).
