Ten years ago, ... for four years

(ex) Ten years ago, I was unemployed for one and a half years. After that, I decided to go back to school.

Does it make sense to say "Ten years ago, ... for one and a half years."? Thanks a lot.

It makes sense, but it is not the best way to talk about something (being unemployed) before a specific time in the past (ten years ago).


It would be better to say, "Ten years ago I had been unemployed for one and a half years when I decided to go back to school. Watch this video to become familiar with the past perfect:
